Police said there was a separate non-fatal shooting on Crown Street in New Haven, just minutes before Smith was shot.

A 22-year-old woman was shot in the foot in a parking garage.

Police said during a news conference on Monday afternoon that both Smith and the woman who was shot had been at Secrets earlier in the night, but investigators don’t think the victims knew each other or were connected.

Police said they also learned that there was an afterhours party on Tilton Street that most of the people who had been at Crown Street were going to.

Investigators are asking anyone who has information to come forward and call their office, or the city's anonymous tipline.
